Founded in 1980, the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors, now Choral Communities (ACCC) is Canada’s only professional organization for choral conductors. It is a non-profit organization that provides a national voice for some 600 conductors across the country. Through its activities (Podium conference), projects (National Youth Choir, National Choral Awards, National Composition Competition) and publications (Anacrusis and The ACCC Directory), ACCC promotes choral music at all levels throughout Canada, and supports and encourages the writing and performance of Canadian choral music. A major communication forum for choral musicians across the country, ACCC also provides professional development opportunities and acts as a liaison with other national and international music organizations. All the provincial choral federations in Canada support ACCC. It is a member of the Canadian Conference of the Arts, the Canadian Music Educators Association and the International Federation for Choral Music.

Choirs Ontario is an arts service organization dedicated to the promotion of choral activities and standards of excellence. Established in 1971 as the Ontario Choral Federation, Choirs Ontario provides services to choirs, conductors, choristers, composers, administrators and educators as well as anyone who enjoys listening to the sound of choral music. We have a growing membership of over 300 choirs, 400 individuals who support choral music and several businesses and institutions. Our overall reach of members of member choirs is some 20,000 residents of Ontario. And, in turn, each of those choirs presents on average three concerts a year to a total audience of more than half a million people. Choral music is the heart of communities large and small and has a significant impact on the lives of Ontarians. It not only permeates our souls but is also a demonstration of the economic value of the arts to society. We are governed by a 14-member Board of Directors and a 12-member Advisory Council chaired by our Honorary Patron, Nicholas Goldschmidt. A staff of two with assistance of contract personnel manages the organization from time to time. Choirs Ontario operates with the assistance of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, the Ontario Arts Council, the Trillium Foundation, the Culture Office of the City of Toronto, foundations, corporations and individual contributors.

VOCE ATTACCA – A New Recording Label Exclusively for Choral Music

Founder and Developer, 2000-2002

This new and exciting project of Choirs Ontario is offered to its member choirs.  In the fall of 2000, a pilot project was undertaken with The Oriana Singers, a women’s choir in Toronto, and Choirs Ontario.  After the recording label’s successful launch, the project is being offered to the entire membership of Choirs Ontario.  This cooperative recording label helps immensely with the promotion and sales of a choir’s CD.  The Choirs Ontario website, the new VOCE ATTACCA catalogue, and distribution of promotional copies to radio, critics, and other key figures will help publicize a choir’s product.  Choirs Ontario will provide each choir with expert consultation in creating a Compact Disc that suits the needs and is tailored to each choir.  Choirs Ontario offers not only high-quality production values through VOCE ATTACCA, but also provides choirs with expert recording engineers to ensure that your product is first-rate.
